Sara Harris And HeartMatters

After my initial years as a psychotherapist, I began to realize that my questions about what it is to be human were calling me to more areas of study than my early training had encompassed. So, to learn more about how the Psyche and the Body speak, I studied Integrative Body Psychotherapy for 5 years, participated in Authentic Movement, African dance, and experienced a wide variety of body therapies. I was also exploring the wilderness, going to areas of amazing beauty and vitality in the American West.

I have also had the great fortune to enter into the world of the Vision Quest, which brought together my love of nature with my love of the sacred in an elegant, incredibly simple way. I became a guide in this work, which I still continue. My open-heart surgery opened another doorway for me, into the mysteries and incredible intelligence of the human body and, specifically, the heart. Other life challenges, pains and sorrows have also brought great teachings.

In my work with people, I draw from these experiences, knowing that the ground of all of our work is to come into relationship with Presence. While I know there are situations to be addressed and skills to be learned in therapy, the deeper value for me lies in learning kindness and having compassion towards this amazing Mystery that we are. With deep curiosity and attention, we can begin to learn how to allow the wisdom of our hearts to guide our lives. The poets, mystics, artists and wise ones of all cultures have always known of these things. Now, our science is catching up and affords us some measurable ways to stay in tune with these guiding principles, which I can offer through the HeartMath tools. I am an active, engaged therapist: an advocate and ally for your growth, depth and aliveness.
